UMnet Backbone Network

The Backbone Network interconnects numerous networks and facilitates collaboration between users of those networks. To accomplish this mission, there are three products provided by IT Communications Services (ITCom). The first product, the U-M Backbone Interconnect Network or UMBIN, interconnects the three backbones of the Ann Arbor Campus together and to the Internet. The other two products, the On-Campus Backbone and the Off-Campus Backbone, are for connecting building networks (LANs) to the UMnet backbone operated by ITCom.
